Portrait paintings are done on smooth canvas which is universal media primed with acid-free acrylic gesso and stretched over 3/4" wooden stretcher bars. A finished portrait is coated over with varnish to protect the painting and glass is not needed. Mats come in many sizes. You have a choice of size, composure and style for your portrait.
